and it's sooooo soft, so when i turn it up after i'm done recording, it clips almost the entire time.

switch to mono when you record, in the software on the track your record, center the pan control. switch the ftrack back to stereo when you playback as well as try it mono.

hmmm. have you checked your cables to make sure they are all good, on your headphones too?

and have you ever heard anything out the side of the ftrack that you dont get anything now?

i've recorded just fine with the fastrack before. www.purevolume.com/brianholl but those are very very bad recordings because i just recorded them with one track (yes, it's like doing it live) and without anything done to them afterwards (this was before i multi-tracked anything) . and my voice in those...yikes. i want to get new recordings up sooo badly. now i'm just thinking of biting the bullet (because of all the money i spent already on this makeshift project studio. (mics, mixer, monitors, interface, cables, etc.)) and just doing booking a studio for a day.

I really wish I was close by and could take a look at your stuff instead of trying to crack it over the internet. it seems that you are getting the signal into the software fine with the interface. However something is going inside with the software such as in panning to the two output busses (mains) on the software, or... coming out of the PC there is a hardware problem from the PC to the Ftrack or in the Ftrack itself.

Im going to see if I can locate something about the software, if I come up with anything I`ll post here for ya man.

you are the man. yes....you are. oh and i know that the software is recognizing my guitar (when i was just trying out your ideas) because i was almost clipping the sound before i got anything. i don't know why when i record now it's sooooo soft.

I`ve been through both manuals. I can`t find anything out of the ordinary. there are no panning option in that software. It`s a fairly straight ahead wav player, but with the virtual effects pedals you can mess with the panning some.

I would suggest recording 2 takes, one with the mono switch in, and one with it on stereo and listening to the playback. Then swap your speakers and listen to both recorded takes. and see what you hear.
Next option would be to send the outputs of the Ftrack to 2 channels of the mixer, plug the headphones into the mixer or hook your monitors up to the outputs of the mixer and listen.
I`m thinking there is a hardware problem, either in the cables, one of the monitors, or in the Ftrack itself.

the weird thing is that i just recorded something with the same signal chain abotu a day ago. it just feels like i'm forgetting to turn something up on the fastrack or something. ohhh....you were talking about the panning thing. i really don't know what's wrong here...and it's so frusterating because i just want to record my music sooo badly and use the new techniques that i've learned here to make it sound good.

so i recorded a little something something last night...totally out of anger. here's the best the i can do with playing it live. (one track, guitar and vox on on track)

The amount of data that can uploaded here is limited, so your files is too large to be posted here.
You'll need to have the piece hosted at another site and provide a link to it here. You might check out www.nowhereradio.com, soundclick.com or any other that may be your preference, as a place to host your recordings.
I'd like to listen and hear what your up against as far as the hardware problem.

oh. haha....i didn't know i forgot to post the link. sorry.

i double-tracked the same thing and just put one (i zoomed in very very very very far) slightly ahead of another track to beef it up a little. i also added some reverb. two different ones on both tracks and then i panned one track to the left just a little bit and one to the right just a little bit.

sounds pretty good to me, and looks like you're up and runnin. Keep trackin....:)

pretty darned good to me. I'd ease off the verb just a bit and use the compressor you have in there to even out the levels a bit more. I can tell when you move head down away from the mic. Good luck and have many funz...

see, the thing is...i really don't know how to use compression. to the recording tech forum i go! heh.
