Couple of questions for any users out there...

Has anyone installed the Ethernet option for the d2424lv successfully?

Also, the 2 gig wav file transfer limit is only for external scsi transfer right? not internal IDE1?

Any help would be appreciated.

I'd be interested in peoples experience with the Ethernet option too since I don't have it yet.

As far as the 2 gig WAV file transfer limitation goes unfortunately it applys to any media as far as I know. The D2424LV can only work with MSDOS FAT 16 formatted media when exporting WAV files. So if it's external SCSI or internal IDE you'll still only have 2 gigs of space.

This is a major bummer, I know.

There is a FDMS-3 to WAV file ripper out there that would allow you to take say a 40 gig Fostex formatted drive, put it in your computer and convert the Fostex files to WAV files but I haven't tried it myself. Here is the link but the site seems to be down at the moment :

Best of luck!

fat16

How does one even format a drive to FAT16 these days?

I can bearly find the ability to format a drive in FAT32 let alone FAT16.

Has anyone gotten this ethernet option? I'd be interested to know if the fostex wav format or the actual wav format on the FAT16 from IDE2 is being transferred to PC.

I record long concerts and my files are all very large. the fdms rip link seems not to work, if anyone has a copy or a new URL, please post or email me.

D2424 WAV Transfer

Hi,
I do not have the Ethernet option intalled on my d2424 but I did have an old 2nd hand 2gig scsi installed (including a scsi card ) for about £30 and it works well enough and I can transfer a full song,(say 18-20 tracks) in about 3min to my pc. The tracks can then be edited and if required, can be loaded back on the d2424. Its not a bad option but I would like to have it a bit more flexable and a 2gb scsi is not a lot of use for transferring. I found that Fostex has a very poor back up and no support at all as I tried contacting them but they did not want to know. How good is the Ethernet optinon and how does it transfer to pc, what connections, cables etc are required.
VeeBee.

The ethernet option has done well so far. I record whole rock concerts lasting 90-120 minutes for 24 tracks.

It took about 11 hours to transfer to pc all 24 tracks for a 90-120 minute recording.

I ordered the firewire option but it is on backorder.

I really like this machine.

some ftp programs do make the ftp crash and the machine needs restarted. I found the simple "ftp explorer" and standard explorer work the best verses like smart ftp, coreftp, etc.

ftp explorer I can just set it and leave it and it will transfer without a crash on computer and link to ftp on machine.

restarting the hd2424 in this state has not affected my files any.

I always backup my files to other hard drive before attempting to ftp to pc.

Hi jlizard,
Thanks for your reply, I am interseted in what you said about the ethernet option on the d2424 I wonder if you wouldnt mind a few further questions >
1. Did you get your d2424 with the ethernet already installed, or did you have it installed by Fostex afterwards, or did you install it yourself ??
If you did install it your self, where can you get the ethernet (card ) ?? is it a card ?? and is it hard to install.
2.You mentioned a firewire option, does this mean that you can transfer tracks in wav. format via firewire to your pc ?? if that is so, this surely sounds the ideal option as firewire is very fast and would speed up the process.
If you have any further information on this I would be very grateful, as I tend not to use my d2424 because it is such a roundabout way when it comes to requiring to edit tracks.
Many thanks,
VeeBee
