What would be a good setup for me?
Currently, my recording setup is as follows:
Guitar-Wah-RP300a-Soundcard-Audacity.

I am wondering the following:
How can I improve my recording setup?
What program can I buy that is easy to use, and better than Audacity?
What program can I buy were I can make really good, quality backing tracks?
What guitar utility is better than the PODxt?
If somehow I can located these programs free, that would be for the best.

Thank you very much.

quality of sound purely depends on the quality of convertors in the sound card. audacity will record in 32 bit float if i remember.
if you want something better than audacity (which doesnt do midi)
just search under my name, loads of posts in the past year
to help new people including, sound cards, computers, mics, software,
monitors etc.

Do you recommend cakewalk?
...I'll take any midi backing track makers if a good program comes with it.

i use powertracks. a superb midi software for 49 bucks.
extensive midi editing and notation. and a thousand other midi and audio features.
demo is at pgmusic.com. you wont better it for the money.
ive been a user for years.
search under my name for more info.

also at the same time. if your a songwriter like me. check out by the same company band in a box. this product has won fame all over the world with songwriters. huge user base. just try it and youll get addicted like thousands of others.
