Questions about Bass Traps and Packing Blankets

Analyzing a room without performing basic treatments first is jumping the gun (IMO/E). I wouldn't even bother shooting a room without a dozen broadband traps in it first - All it'd tell me is that the room is such a mess that I need a dozen broadband traps before I can see any sort of detail with what it still needs (and it usually needs another dozen traps).

I had 18 traps in here before I even hooked up the speakers. Then I added another three or four by ear before I shot the room and placed the following 8 (or so - I lose count)...

Shooting the room "naked" is like calling in a mechanic to give a tune-up to a car with no motor - It's pretty obvious that the thing isn't going anywhere. Put the basic parts in first - Then start tweaking things.

I would agree with this-I was thinking in terms of the rooms I have used in my home , which typically have existing furniture, window treatments, etc. that serve as traps and diffusers.

I ask this question as an ignorant, so go easy folks, but to what extent does furnishing, curtains, beds and the like actually make a difference ?

They make a big difference, just not a predictable one. If you have ever moved out of a house, you probably noticed how different the rooms sounded when all the furniture was gone. It can make quite a difference.

ATS doesn't make bass traps, IIRC. They sell closed-back acoustic panels, mineral wool covered with burlap and a wood backing/sides.

Exactly what "instructions" would they provide anyhow? I'm confused.

Wow...with all due respect but this guy must be high or something:eek:

Ive boughtn' all my Rockwool from ATS Acoustics and Ive had a problem with so called instructions...

I mean...why would u buy a basstrap if you didnt even know how to use it without instructions, ya know?

Once again...no disrespect:)
