Well essentially an aural exciter enhances a certain set of frequencies. Most usually work in 2 parts, one on the low frequencies, and one on the high frequencies. The frequencies that are "Enhanced" are usually "sweet" frequencies (Ones that sound better on your home stereo). There are several methods enhancers use, ranging from simple EQ's, to Resynthesis of the signal (i.e. subharmonics generated from the program material that are later mixed in via the low frequency enhance controls, and so forth).
