Another thing, I'd bet a $1k that NONE of them could pick out a 57 on a recording. Just my ,02

I forget where I read this, but there was a comparison in an online magazine that was comparing different mics on acoustic guitar and vocals......

They had evrything there including a Nuemann (forgot which one) and for acoustic guitar the overal majority pick the 57 over all the other mics in a blind listening session.

Now vocals it came in second........but still.........

Initially when I heard Dave's (ARP) recordings I though they were done with a really good condenser but to my surprise (and shock) it was the 'ol 57's at work :) . Sure, there were some small eq tweaks here and there but still ... ;)

Hey cjacek, "your van on the river"reminds me of my old van. I used to have an old ford Econoline. The "psychedelic special":D I had one of those old 8 track cassettes in it. I forget what kind it was but it had a couple of line level inputs into it. Lord knows for what, but I remember I plugged a hi Z mic, and a strat into it and voila! it worked. Loud too! My little van PA and guitar amp. Sounded like shit , but boy did we have fun with that thing. Spent daaaaaaaaays by the river, practicing and writing songs in that ole van. Loved it. Must have looked like an idiot though now that I think back. The whole inside was right out of those corny 60's movies. Psycedelic posters, and pictures painted on the inside. Had a bed, amp, fridge, sink. Man, those were the days. What a goofball.

OMG! I used to have a creme white '81 Econoline up until a little over a year ago. With browns and rust colored pladd seats with the bed, fridge, PUMP sink, coset, AND checkerboard/chess tables :p Oh man........I had already forgotten about that. Damn thing didn't have A/C though and I live in Phoenix ... not good.

I remember some of those 8 track days . Been a while since I've been in the rock seen day's, but I had some of those oldies like steppin wolf, CCR, Rare Earth, Iron butterfly with that looooong boring drum solo . Never seen any of those old groups those . But I seen a lot of groups like foghat, framtons camel ( peter framton ) and I know that's not how to spell that . Lynard skynard, sorry boy's I can't spell made a F in spelling . And a lot lot more . Had all this on 8 track . And i've read alot on mic's and the sm57 always ranks louder in the runnings than any other mic that I've seen . I've been wanting one for a long time had some $ to spend and that was a good investment . I like to blow a little on the harmonica and record it with guitar, bass, and drum, and it brought the honker to life.
