Sorry if this isnt the right place for this but I dont see a better spot. I have a nice little studio . I charge $28.00 per hour and do very nice work. A lot of studios in my town are closing up. Im currious as to what some of you charge for your service. It seems it is becoming a very tough business these days. That being said I do well but Im inexpensive. I'd love to now what other areas charge. Im in upstate New York in a mediun size city. :) maybe add in a thread what level you are at. ie. small in home, small to med. comercial, large full service.

I'm at $65/hr Cdn. (about $55/hr USD).... full-service commercial facility I run from my home.

About half of my work is generous (free for singles), mostly to the younger kids...I work pretty hard on that stuff cuz I like it...the kids and wanna-be's are great. I get "exersize" making beginners sound like pro's. They take it home...show their friends and family...eventually word gets around and "players" come calling or parents send them back to work up a bigger project.

When I get beyond a "donation/gratis" project, depending upon what they're looking for, between 30-50 per hour but I give them bigger breaks for full or half day sessions. I hate it when a team shows up wanting to bang it all out in 1 hr. and 15 minutes and asking if I charge extra for the sodas and blank CD's.

I'm not in it to take the money...I'm just diggin it but if you make me work to fit you into my personal schedule...it's going to cost a little.

I went ahead and used 30-45. I like to feel expensive :D

Actually I'm just getting started commercially, purposely verrry slowly, and I just quoted that rate last weekend! Wish me luck!

For a smallish/start up project studio, I recommend being a part of the community. Mix it up with the schools and music shops. Notice how every shop seems to have lessons available, most every school has a music program but none can provide the big reward...the recorded, pro sounding proof of the student's labors?

This is my second maybe third hobby. I can't keep up with it. I've got a "regular" job, teach guitar & piano on the weekends and track probably 4 nights a week.

We have a "Lemme-hear-it" a couple times a year in our community park. I send out mailers to everyone I've ever had cross my door and then some. Anyone/everyone lays down a "one-shot" for free. It's a two day deal in the park. The allow alcohol so I'm guessing that helps. I put out a single CD and all the participants get one copy for free. They always come back for more.

Some weekends are completely jammed up. Give into the community, they'll notice you and come back for more. Be noticed and appear generous...not to be confused with free or cheap.

k....so I went out there a bit...sorry. The big boys don't have to worry 'bout me but the bottom line is, if you want to do the bizz, I don't see why not. You might not make the glamm bucks but it should certainly augment the paycheck and pay for ALL the equipment...hell, I don't even need it...I'm just into if for the fun and I'm up to my ass!

Once again,...sorry for taking the long way around Uranus :D

I charge about $10 an hour, because I live in a cheap place, have cheap gear and no good place to record so I often am just recording at bands practice spaces, or in my basement. Plus I am usually just recording bands I know from the local scene. There is a pretty good studio that charges like $35 and he's got a sweet place, so I keep it super low for broke locals who have no choice. If I was gonna charge $20 they would probably go to him and spend the extra cash for a "real" studio. I can do 10 tracks simultaneous, but my computer (harddrive) can only handle about 16 tracks total of playback, I like to keep it simple so it usually works out very well.

$35-$50 per hour. We just opened, and have been locking in most people at $35. It seems to fly well here. We are also doing $1500 for M-F, 8 hr days w/100 cds included, so that works out be about $30 per hour.
