why don't you try to get a beyer m260 from http://www.musicians-gear.com/ for less than 300 USD. Other possibility is ebay or pawnshops. There are some people here on this board who had defective beyer ribbon mics re-ribboned by stephen sank in albuquerque. He refurbishes them with RCA ribbons. Get an old m260/m500/m130 and let him put in a DX77 ribbon...AFAIK he takes only 125 USD for this work!!!

Thanks for the info.I'm going to definetly look into the Beyer

Depends...

I've had two DX Mods done and one took about a week and the other about 2 weeks. It just depends on how busy he is with other things at the time. I think ones her gets the time, it takes but an long evening.

On thi ribbon topic... I hear great things about the Royer for mic'ing guitar cabs and getting ahuge sound. How do these other, cheaper deals compare with the Royer? Anyone know? What about the mod? Really better? Better than a Royer?
I'm talking to Stephen Paul about doing a mod for me tomorrow... seems pretty cool...
Another ribbon queston... if these are greaqt for guitars recording, are they not-so-great live?
Oh and Weston, he said your Green Machine from Beijing was fine! ;)
Peace,
Paul
