hi,
this is my setup
computer with:
audiophile 24/96
studiophile sp-5b monitors
mixer
this is how i have it hooked up
output of aduio card goes to my power monitors
input of my card goes to the output of the mixer
this is right....but the problem im having is how do i monitor my entire mix with headphones so when i play the real drums i can hear the mix in my headphones to play along to? it obviously has to connect to the output of the card but that is takin up by the monitors. what do i need to do this besides a headphone amp?any help would be great.
thanks in advance

What about:

Soundcard > Mixer > Powered Speakers

So run L/R outputs from soundcard to two inputs on the mixer, assigned to the master L/R outputs on the mixer, from the L/R outputs of the mixer, to the powered speakers.

Control the level of your prerecorded tracks via a fader (or two) on your mixer.

What mixer?

How many channels do you have? One way to do it (if you have enough channels and 2-4 busses) send your drum mix or individual tracks out the busses into your audiocard, and do not buss to your L/R mix!! then bring the outputs of the card into any available channels and send those to your L/R. Basically it's the old split console procedure.

its a behringer eurorack mx802a
what i had is the the main outs goin to the monitors
the tape in was coming from the output of the card
and the tape out was goin to the input of the card
the problem with that is if you try to record one track and playing back the rest you are recording all them on one track which you dont want.

Don't know if you figured this out but I ended up buying a cheap mixer for the audio out. I plug my headphone in this mixer for monitoring.

I have another mixer for anything going into the computer. A more expensive approach is to get a good mixer with a submix section. I could not afford this so ended up getting two inexpensive ones to do the same thing.

Make sure you have 2 discreet paths for your signals. One is only for monitoring and the other is only for the signal you want to record.

I was looking at the specs and you should use Aux 2 in PreFader as either your record send or your monitor send. Use the main buss as the other signal path.

The lack of inserts and a 3/4 buss is another reason why the Behringer is not in the same class as the Mackie 1202 or Soundcraft M4. Damn those Behringers suck. They give you just enough options to not quite do the job right.
