I am a composer of music for songs who's been putting together a demo of my stuff to send around to various singers using the 6 track recorder/mixer built into my keyboard(running a line out of the keyboard and taping the tracks directly to cassette).....I've been getting more into the rhythmic aspects of things, have decided to get a drum machine and whatever else I'll need to take this approach to the next level(recording device/mixer to record from the keyboard/drum machine using two lines in;the mixer being used to balance these two)......any and all help/info/suggestions/advice about what I'm dealing with would be greatly appreciated.
Here are the 2 things I'd most like to get feedback on-
1.I have been using the keyboards' percussion settings along with the preset rhythms to set up the grooves up to now;being limited to the 6 tracks has resulted in this need to expand(i.e.the presets are not what I want on the final demo, necessitating my using 2-4 tracks to put the beat on;the 2 remaining aren't enough to finish the arrangements.I am a studied drummer and can easily transcribe/reproduce/create the type of beats I want on the demo-can I skip actually getting the drum machine and just get a mixer that I can use to mix a 6-track rhythm track along with another 6-tracks of instrumental parts? Is this feasible or would it be easier to get the drum machine?
2.I am not yet familiar with how to program these machines and would appreciate a brief overview re-how I currently do it on the keyboard;also what is involved re-mixing/recording using this approach and especially any recommendations re-brands/models(on the low end $-wise)....
Thanks in advance.......

1. Um... Not too sure what you mean about the mixer and that. I think it would be easier to get a drum machine if, as I'm guessing, the alternative for you is recording all the drums parts live. At least if you have a drum machine, you can record all your loops using no more than two channels.

2. The Korg ER-1 is a good, reasonably-priced drum machine. In the US, I think it retails at between $350-400.
