tracking out beats

what do you guys think about tracking out leased beats? i mean some times the artist may want to go to the studio and give it some extra touches. i know that is like one of the percs for buying out a beat, but do you guys get a lot of requests for leased beats to be tracked out?

nope never had that asked before..and i would recommend that they buy to beat instead on leasing if they want to added additional sounds..

I think you get what you pay for. If you're paying for leased you should get the beat as it is with the tags taken out (or in my case...in its entirety), but seeing that the leasing vs. buying issue does scare away some customers, I do offer a track by track version of the beat (it just costs extra). Exclusives, I'll do that for free unless I'm told not to.

contracts

Ya, you do get what you pay for. I've had people ask me if they could touch up a leased beat. Sorry can't happen. You need ta buy an exclusive purchase. Sometimes I think people try to get over on you by doing that. They're getting a custom beat by you fixing up a leased beat. You have to stand your ground and let them know the difference of the two purchases.

Oh ya, and remember there are a lot of cats out there trying to get over on you. If you show your contract and say you won't hand over the beat till all paperwork is done, they'll run away like crazy and you'll never see them again. They'll try to play someone else then try to play you. Normally, only serious artists will buy beats after seeing the contracts, and that's people I only want to deal with anyway. Good business...

Everybody wants a deal...and if they can feel like they aced you then that's even better on them.

If you come to me...let's talk business, not bullshit. Save the bullshit for the club where it might get you laid.

Here's the only instances where I've given a free beat...

1.) It's part of a compilation that I'm taking part in, and I'm getting production credit on the track.

2.) You're involved in my label.

3.) We've traded goods/services whatever...like I'll make you the beat and you give me a feature on my CD. All credit is given but no money changes hands, just papers.

4.) You're closer than blood family...that only accounts for a literal few.

5.) You're someone actually IN my blood family and I'm willing to take the time on you (this has never happened).

6.) You've brought me extra business, you've never bought an exclusive beat from me, but you brought me 5 or 6 folks who did (and they let me know you referred me to them).
