i didnt really know where to put this, so im putting it here.

ive noticed that many people here use soundclick to host and post their music. from what ive seen, i like the layout, sound quality, and how accessible it is for visitors to listen to your stuff. so, i signed up to start my own little page. my problem is that i dont write my own material and i really just prefer to do covers. im silly like that. anyway, im seeing stuff all over that site stating that theyll remove anything thats a copyright infringement. even though im not interested in selling my covers, it clearly states that it doesnt matter - its still a copyright infringement. id really hate to upload a bunch of songs only to have them wiped out by the soundclick nazis. is this something that i really need to be concerned about? im not looking to rip anyone off. im just a hack doing covers. is ace frehley really gonna sue me for doing 'rocket ride'?

Probably not but you never know - his daughter looked pretty tough on VH1.

Maybe check with RAMI - he had a few covers up and he might help you with how you go about getting the "rights".

If you just stream is that like "less infringement"...not sure...

You could always just take the chance that none of us squeal on you....

I really have nothing..... :o :o :o :o

:) :) :D :D

lol. i looked at the permission rates, and they read like a phone-sex-line. $.99 cents per minute? fuck that. sure, its just pocket change, but i like to do covers. ill be damned if im gonna pay every time i finish one. maybe i just shouldnt even bother with it.

Hmmmm... You could always put it up and see if they scan every single site to see if there are covers on it. They do have a "Covers" chart, so that must mean that they allow covers. You might just have to show permission form the publisher if they ever ask. When I had my music up on Soundclick, I had a few covers, but I also had the publisher's permission. But Soundclick never asked me if I did, so I wonder if they're just saying that to cover their own asses, and the rest is up to you.

so how did you get permission? the method they outline at soundclick seems like a real pain in the ass.

(Looks like we all were typing at the same time for the above respsonses...I thought I was first...Damn it!!!:D )

I Googled the tunes I was doing ( I did "Sympathy for the Devil" by the Stones and "Under MY Wheels" by Alice Cooper) and found out who the publishers were for those tunes. I think the Stones tune was BMI and I can't remember who the Alice Cooper one was. I called and told them it was for less than 100 CD's. I think it ended up being about 8 cents a CD, so I sent them a check for 8 bucks. This was a couple of years ago.
But there is one place that takes care of all that. It's a dude's name, but I can't remember who it is. I'm sure someone knows and will chime in.
