Hi,

My question is about mixing sample rates. I've used 44.1 samples in a mix and output to 48, but the sound quality is just not what I expected at mix down. Everything sounds fine on my monitors during mixing (I'm using Event TR-5s). Would this be the culprit in any problems or artifacts in the mixdown? One problem I am having is that some of the string instuments have a sort of detuned sound to them. I ask this because the sound card drivers I am using has a fixed output sample rate of 48. Should I convert the 44.1 samples to 48 and then use them?

It sounds like part of the problem might be the method your soundcard uses to resample to 48KHz. To get anything like a decent sound in resampling, you have to have some form of anti-aliasing. A lack of anti-aliasing will most certainly result in audio artifacts, and would contribute to the problems you're having with the strings.

Try using a program such as SoundForge or the like to resample the audio files using an anti-aliasing filter, and then bring them into your project.

Why are you upsamling to 48k?

OR

If you just mix to 44.1, does it sound okay?
