question about recording on mixcraft 4

ok so ive been recording all of my songs on mixcraft 4. and ive had this problem where while im recording, the track im recording over lags and it throws me off beat, and i end up having to re-record. from time to time it will do this to me making it harder to record. anyone know why? any suggestions? any other programs i can use for simple recording like mixcraft?
