Question about Impedance

I'm looking at a preamp that has variable impedance. How much will this really help (or make) a mic sound better? Can I damage the mic by running to low or to high impedance? Talking about condenser mics.

It may make the mic sound different. If it does, it may be better or worse. Nice to have the option, though.
No, you cannot damage it.
