Question about 488 mk 2 output levels.

Yeah, they're pretty nice machines. Despite what some of the computer guys may say about analog cassette, I'm getting some pretty nice tracks on mine. I think Joe Meek said it best..."If it sounds right, it IS right." I think mine sounds just fine. :)

Heck, I'm happy if monty's happy!

I'm the one who recommended the 488mkII to him, so you know I'm happy,... considering the alternative!!

then the proof of the pudding is in the eating, I suppose.

Try it out, and tell us how it works!!

It's a cute "workaround" that may get you those 8-track taps that you want, but it goes beyond what the machine was originally designed for. If it works, then more power to'ya.

If 8 track feeds is what you're after, in the long run, then you might be better off with the 688 or 238.
I just did the eight out thing, as posted at this site. Works great. Hooked them up to the inputs on my Gadget Labs card and Sonar2. Now I'm ready to lay down all my masterpieces. I'll have to learn how to play an instrument now, before I do any recording. I figure about 5 years and I should be ready...maybe 10.

Monty, I know how you feel. I've been practicing guitar now for 21 years and still haven't learned how to play. Maybe next year it will finally come to me  Oh well...dare to dream :D

I’ve been using this 488. It is really cool. I’m really glad I didn’t get a 688 now. This 488 has all that I need or want, and it only weighs a third of what the 688 weighs. It’s easy to use and doesn’t have all that midi stuff which I don’t need. The sound is just what I’ve been looking for, and it’s on a cassette, which is good for an un-organized person such as myself when it comes to keeping track of stuff and having easy access to it. Reels have always been a pain in the butt for me, and the sound of guitar on digital leaves something to be desired. The sweepable EQ is great. I’ve been listening to stuff I did a week ago, and it sounds great. I can’t seem to objectively listen to something right after I do it…it always sounds bad for some reason…but letting it age on the tape for a while makes it sound just like the radio!!! I’m even happier now!!!

I'm twice as happy as that!

You're right about the 688, it's HEAVY!!!

The 488mkII is a fine, sporty little unit. I'm glad to see a positive review of it, once in a while.

On the other hand, most of the negative reviews of cassette multitrack recording come from people who have never used it, and so, are not to be taken seriously.

Unorganized? Man, you've never seen unorganized until you've seen my house, or lived my life. Scary.

That was one of the drawbacks as far as I could see. I'm always moving stuff around and like to set up casual stuff on my bed even. So how's that 688 doing?

;)

It arrived on the 23rd. I went to unpack it on the 24th, and got it only half unpacked. It remains half packed in original box, but what I've seen of it, it looks cool. All in that bubble wrap & stuff.
