Quantegy 499 too hard on Fostex E-2 & E-8?

When I got my E-2 I got 4 reels of sealed Quantegy 499 tape. Is this tape going to be too hard on the E2 and or the E8. Thanks, I think I'm going to use 632 on these big decks 642 on the model 80 and model 20...thanks for the feedback.

There have been many discussions here regarding this. I am not sure there is a consensus, but the smaller Fostex *were* designed for 1mil tape. Additionally, 499 is a higher output tape, and you may be slightly underbiased for it, however, that may not give you a bad sound. YMMV.

Where did you acquire the 642? I am planning to use UD-35 with the Fostex and give 641 w/ dbx a go on my 22-4.

They had pancakes of 642 too...but it looks like they have only 5"900ft plastic reels left (over 500) the price is 10.99 so about the same as 7"
lpr35 7"1800 feet...
