QS-6 with drum machine question

I have a question regarding using the QS-6 synth to record MIDI tracks in conjunction with a drum machine (Roland R5).

The recorded synth sounds are fine, however, when I record a track with the R5, it "plays back" through the QS-6 on channel 10 and loses much of the sound in the process. Is there a way of setting the synth to respond to, say, channels 1-9, and the drum machine to channel 10?

My objective is simply to get the actual sound on playback from the drums. What role does the QS-6 play in this process?

Tnanks for any help you can offer. I will find ultimate utopia and inner peace when I solve this problem.

Don't have a QS6, but I have a QS8 which *should* be the same
What you want to do is in a Multi-timbral mode of the QS6, turn off Channel 10.

(You need to take the QS out of Gen. Midi Mode for this, Edit -> Global -> Page 7)

I use Mix Mode, User Bank, Patch 0 (Multitmbrl set) for my sequencing needs on my QS8.

Then, in that mode use the [< Page] and [Page >] keys to select channel 10
Hit the Edit Button , the display should say :
ED: MIX CHAN 10 p1
PROG ENABLE: ON

Just change that to "OFF" and the Synth won't respond to Channel 10 MIDI messages.

You will notice that the Dot on the display that corresponds to channel 10 is not present anymore.

You should be able to hit keys on the keyboard, and have the drum machine respond to those keys (providing you have the systems setup for that, at least I do)

I had to research this myself a while back (Qs8 and Alesis Sr-16 here) and it took a while of finagling amd pushing buttons, but this works.

What sequencing software are you using, btw?
