After modding my 3630 I decided to check out my Q-V to see what can be done. Appearantly it uses the same analog chips that the 3630 uses, the LF347. This chip is just OK with average distortion values. I just ordered a set of AD713's to replace the LF347's. If it works as well on the Q-V as it did on the 3630 I will end up with a sweeter sounding reverb. I always liked the Q-V but this mod will lower the distortion levels by 90%. I'm curious..has anybody else tried this???

I haven't, but I would be interested in your results. I like my QV as well and don't really want to get rid of it. But I have been thinking about it. But if a mod will make it that much better, I might reconsider.

Hi F-G...I'll keep you posted. I started using my QV in the external loop on my yamaha aw2816 and it sounds way better than the builtin effects IMHO. If I can improve the overall sound it may turn out to be a half-decent mastering chain when used with the 3630. I have tried a few mixes and the results were just OK. upgrading the IC's may improve it enough to make it useable.

I doubt you will hear an appreciable difference changing out an OP Amp on a reverb unit.

Hi Ford....You could be right...I will know in a few days. If it's worth reporting I will post an mp3 . And it's a total of 16 opamps....4 per chip x 4 chips. If I become silent on the subject.....................I'm also swapping info with some folks at gearslutz and some seem very knowledgeable and probably can spell better than I can. The 3630 mod turned out great, as I said earlier. Otherwise the QV goes byebye.....

Well guys...after a week of screwing around with it I still can't make it work. The quality of the traces was not as good as the 3630 so I've had a lot of lifting to troubleshoot and repair as I go, locating damage and fixing it. I have drawn a complete schematic of the analog I/O sections and it helps some but sure could use the factory drawings. I will keep poking at it till I get it. Man...don't you love a good puzzle??? It's kind of a distraction now and I need to spend the time tracking and mixing.
