putting a compressor with the mixer

I have a spirit folio mixer(stereo) and it works fine for what need

I'm about to purchase a compressor and i need to know is there any other piece that I may need to better help my recording sound other than this one. I'm only recording some vocals and some beats and I just need the basic because I don't have a lot of $$$$$$

I would go with a mic pre-amp first if you dont have one.What are you recording to?

The pre amps in the Spirit aren't too shabby. A Really Nice Compressor would be my next stop if I were you. This one has a lot of bang for the buck.

No, do NOT buy an Behringer Ultramizer. It SUCKS. It's the crappiest compressor of all the four compressors I have.

Get the FMRaudio RNC instead. It is supposed to be really good (but I'm saving up to a MPC2000XL and haven't bought one yet).
