I have just a couple of questions about what items I should buy, and which ones aren't useful in a studio. Below I'll list what I think I need, my budget for these units all together is $1200. If you have any input on what products I should buy please post.

-Mic tube preamp
-Compressor/Limiter
-Large Diaphragm mic
-Reverb

Thanks

These are what I had picked out. Any Comments?

-ART Dual Mic Preamp
-Alesis 3630
-No clue for the large diaphragm vocal mic
-Lexicon MPX-100

-ART Dual Mic Preamp: Great choice!

-Alesis 3630: Replace it with an RNC or a Behringer Model "X"? (sonusman can help with the Behringer model #).

-No clue for the large diaphragm vocal mic:
I'd personally go for an Oktava MC012 preamp-body and 3 small diaphragm caps with an RTT M1 large diaphragm cap all for less than $500US from The Sound Room only. www.oktava.com

-Lexicon MPX-100: Great choice!

Don't forget some nice/at least decent cables!

the ART dual mp is pretty highly regarded, it should suit you fine...

as far as the compressor, some behringer models or an RNC are around the same price range as the alesis, but they are in almost every opinion i've had totally worth the extra 50$... heh, also, check out the title to the alesis forum

ehh, i don't sing on my home recordings, and when my band comes over to do cheap recordings we use a cheapo shure that he would have used at the practice anyway... so as far as high quality (heh as in better than a 58) i'm not your guy to answre

the lexicon mp-100 doesn't sound bad at all for the money... i haven't worked with anything that's considered a great deal better so i guess i'm clueless here as well

Thanks for the feedback! It's good to know that I at least somewhat had the right idea.

Zerotosixty I have a Behringer Composer I found at a local shop used for $150 and I REALLY like it. I was using a NanoCompressor (from what I understand the scaled down version of a 3630) and I really like the Behringer better.

What are the mic preamps used for mainly? Add better tone to everything? Vocals? Guitar? Drums? How many inputs does that dual MP have? 1?
