So far I have narrowed it all down to this setup. First off I am mostly recording vocals/acoustic guitar, with possibly some electric. I have done some recording in the past, but usually pretty basic. (condensor/mixer/computer)

Mic- MXL V63M - $100

Mixer- Behringer XENYX 1204 (not due out on the market until 3/30/2006)

People really seem to hate Behringer, but I dont have the cash for a Mackie, and I have used one in the past that got me by.

I will be using the USB output on the mixer. I will record/edit with Adobe Audition 2.0, using ASIO. My computer is 2.8 ghz and 512 DDR2 ram.

Any suggestions on this setup? Any information is welcome. Like would a tube preamp help things? Thanks.

Sorry about the double post

First of all let me clear somethings up about Beri haters.

I've been using my Beri mx 602a since 2002. Its been rock solid. Plugged in the wall since 2002 and never turned off since it doesnt have an on/off switch! Could you believe been plugged since 2002 till today never turned off! I recored numerous of radio/studio quality music from this mixer! Lots of buyers of my production music and my clients don't believe I recorded these albums in my bedroom.

Never no problems with it and I'm planning to get the Beri- Truths 8' speakers the mid of this month since I'm strapped for cash and I trust the Beri brand. If they suck, I'll send them back and get something else. But I wouldnt hate Beri.

To get to your questions:

Everything looks rock solid. Im planning to also get the Xenyx 1204 but the FX version. So I will most likely eBay my current mixer. You might want to upgrade your ram another 512 especially if you using XP. Trust Im a hardcore pc gamer and the difference is like night and day.

It is with much glee that I see behringer entering the computer/daw market. I know that the USB stuff is just a direct ripoff of somewhat unrelated non daw things but this can not be denied as a foot in the door

When behringer goes full at it, they will go at protools

Best part is, behringer can and will LEGITAMATELY use the same BS that PT used to come in!
as in :

Its cheap

Schools use it to teach kids

Its cheap

Everyone will have one because its cheap

It is the STANDARD because everyone has one

Its cheap

I am loving it. I give MOA a two year lease on life the moment Behringer makes an actual card ( they already ripped the RME adi units so they got I/O)

This new deal already has ASIO drivers! How far off can that be then?

Aint life grand? :)
