Fucked up evolution

Yoo,

A band recorded here today , really nice guys.
Their style is a bit punkish and I really want to make an effort for these lads(16 yearold's).

After 6 hours of recording yesterday 4 today and 5 hours a week ago my ears are tired as hell :P

There are about 59 tracks but I chose the basic one's first and I'm going to add some thickness in the mixing process later.

Some help on mixing would be very nice ;)
Fucked up evolution <-- Right click and dl ;)

This is how I recorded and mixed it (If you happened to be interested)

Drum:
was a realllyy crappy one with old heads:

Kick : Shure Beta52 replica
Snare: SM57 Shure
Tom1: Fame tom mic
Floor: SM57
OL : AKG C1000
OR: Shure SM94

Room: Studio projects C1

Bass guitar
Stagg bass *shiver* on an AMPEG so that kinda adds up :)
1: Direct Out to Gyraf Gyractec XI
2:SM57 off-axis on speaker
3:Studio projects C1 about 1 meter away

Guitar
Gibson Les Paul Studio
Left: Mesa Boogie dual rectifier
Right: Marshall VS100
Case: Marshall 1960

SM57 and Studio projects C1 against the grill
4 takes (2 left and 2 right) on ''heavy'' distortion
2 takes (1 left 1 right) on ''light'' distortion

Mixing
Andy sneap samples on drumagog

-Original Kick + Trigger kick sent to bus and compressed 10:1 , -13thres, attack 10 , release 100

-Snare added some brightness to original and +sample sent to bus:
Compressed together on 4:1 attack 10 release 140 Thress about -13

-OH automatic compression on 2:1, -5

Guitars: bit added brightness (only using SM57 now)

Bas C4 compress with 2-6k boost, EQ boost: around 200hz

And tons of other stuff :P

Master compression with Waves L2

All tracks were normalized to 90 procent (so threshhold makes a bit sense :P)

Mixing desk :
Soundcraft solo24
Gyraf Gyratec pre-amps on Kick Snare, bas and all the guitars
soundcraft pre-amps on: Overheads and tom mic's

I guess the title gives a bit shivers? :P :P

Come on lads these kids really need it (and so do I ;))
Would be really nice if someone with fresh ears could give it a quick listen.

Anyway , sorry for this bit of spamming and thanks in advance

Sounded very good though I didnt hear any vox so.. can't say anyhting about that. also IMHO i think the kick drum should be a little deeper or thicker other than that its sounds awesome.

Yeah I had doubts about that kick sound !
Vocals are yet to be recorded but keep those comments comming ;)

does one of the guitars sound offbeat to anyone else? maybe its just me.
nevertheless, the sound great

Well it was a very good guitar player but the bass and the drums are the opposite of tight.

oh, you're right, its the other two that are a little shaky.

i actually like the kick sound! i think the snare needs to come up a little bit to match the volume and punch of the kick though.

There's some hiss or noise behind the bass intro.
The sample, a little short don't you think?
Th bass drum sounds like a piece of wet paper being hit against a wall - I'm using h/phones though.
I think the guitars are in synch but then that's my synch mind for you.
I like the intro one. Can you hold it through the mix a little better?
The drums might sound tighter if/when you OD a new bass drum track.
I'm not a fan of the newer punk pop, I'm old and remember '76 - 77 too well. BUT with a clever set of lyrics - & the bouncy track begs for clever dick funny lyrics.

Well the bass guitar was a stagg on an ampeg so I boosted LOTS of high fq to get a more clear sound, but then noise is what you get.
Without the boost the bass guitar sounded too dull , so I had to make a compromise.

What do you mean by OD'ing the kick drum? Rerecording it?

Yeah.
You can remove the hiss after you've mixed and made a stereo master wav file in a prog called wave repair.
Leave some of the hiss at the beginning of the track - with no other sounds, sample it & apply it, with undo, throuh the noise reduction facility over that intro bit & presto - HISS GONE. Careful use won't effect the bass sound at all.
