Public Mix Contest #6

my mix is up (or going up now). I wish I could have dumped the vocal double, that's about the only thing that I didn't have at least some idea for. Real bongos would have been cool :)

I didn't really get my head around the whole mix. I mostly focus on a few elements and try not to ruin it with everything else. I already would have done a couple of things a bit different, but I'm done.

I liked the vocal line where there's too many words squeezed into one phrase. That and the horns bottoming out to that drop chord became my favourite parts of the song. And of course, the bass line kicked.

cool dougH. Mine is going up.. or done by now.

Yeah the lyrics do get busy, but IMO it was nailed in a good way!

About the percussion, bongos , hmm me thinks yeah, allthough Bryan had the Hi congas playin' like bongos parts , and was quite nice. I will be forwarding my "perc" tracks(w/ Mix) to Bryan for compilation-after the contest of course, so he doesn't get biased.

I really dig the horn section- maybe you can tell by my mix LOL.

This was a fun mix. Great tune and production!!

OH BTW I checked out Cary's mix---nice man!! Great job on the bass, that's prolly where my mix lacks ha!

Eh. I'm not expecting to do too great on this one. I've been too busy. I didn't spend very much time on it. Mine's uploading now.
 
Never mind... the browser method seems to work, but couldn't do it with ws-ftp..

My son asked my a while ago "when's that song contest thing due?"

I say "in a few days I think.."

Then I check and find it's more like a few hours! :eek: Now it's 2:30am and I'm mixing in headphones.. The bass is all fuzzy and overloaded, there's a couple bars of the brass that sound way out of time. Superb playing on this though! Great bass, ep, brass, and of course vocal!

I tried last week to ftp my mix, but I couldn't get it to, neither IE nor ws-ftp worked. So I mailed it to you, Bryan, just like last time. I hope that's okay. If not, then so be it. I can't retry because I'm on probably the slowest dialup connection in the world right now, so it would take me hours and cost me a fortune. If it doesn't work out, see you next time and merry christmas.

OK Mines there. Still learning my new room and monitors so I'm very interested in how this all turns out.

Great tune Bryan. Kudos to you and your wife (she sang right ?).

It seems as though the amount of time we are given to judge has gotten quite short. I would like to see it extended at least through the 24th. I am sure this request will be met with many boo's, but wouldn't you rather I get to take a little more time to evaluate your mix, rather than let haste take over?

True Eric. don't wanna push the judges for a fair assesment. Though it'll prolly just show how much my mix sux LOL;)
Guess that will be up to you judges and Bryan.

Yeah, i think I could be done by then. I'll try to get the mixes judged Wednesday night, but if I don't finish, I won't have time on Thursday night. I know I could find time on Friday to finish up.
