Sounds good detuned6. Although I would work on the vocal mix more. Especially the main:harmony ratio.

HERE'S MY MIX!
FINAL/ONLY VERSION

http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/file.php?fid=1154

I was shooting for a commercial/"radio-ready" sound without too much limiting, cause I know people here don't like it :) I think this sound suits the band though.
There's a fair amount of special effects and editing as well. Took me about 3-4 hours total. If anyone's interested, feel free to ask questions.

One thing I noticed is that most people's mixes here are very light on the bass, especially in the kick drum. This is because, I think, the kick recording on this track had ZERO fundamental. I used a sample of my own Yamaha kick instead. Didn't like the snare either; used my Ludwig Supraphonic.
Double-check your lows everyone! Compare to something you're familiar with. In my opinion, no one has enough enough tight lows (emphasis on TIGHT... there have been some "boomy" mixes here) yet.

I must say that if there's anything in music that I hate, it's the "hit everything as fast as you can and pretend your kick drum is a machine gun" drumming style. Seriously. That, and the screaming, really kind of made me not like the song much. But, that's just a genre thing I suppose, so I just tried to ignore it and mix.
I think having a really clicky kick drum just makes it worse though.

Since I don't have enough time to devote to this mix, I figured I would just try to help someone else win.

Hint #1 This was recorded well and the sounds that were captured are good and work together.

Some of you are trying too hard, if you are using more than a couple db of eq, you have gone too far.
Thanks, farview.... ;)

Well guys..My lil Athlon hates me now. :) I think I went out to about a 1/2 second latentcy to keep it running. I have enjoyed this immensely and it worked my ass off, this being the first time I`ve ever tried to mix anything this large. I'm not an engineer but I thought I could learn a from this task. I'm not sure of my monitors and room at all. It's fair game to beat me up iff'n ya want. :D

edit: I took it up about 4 db. I usually mix at moderate levels to keep headroom and forgot to take this up after I finished.

Toki, pretty quiet mix, but the sounds are all there. Actually, pretty full. I'm far from an engineer, so take it for what it's worth, but so far, nice mix. Drums sound very full. Lots of highs, and lows. Good guitar sound also. Sorry, can't help much, but I'd say pretty decent.

You can always do what I did and get rid of the screaming.... All the screaming takes were all on 3 tracks with nothing else, so that made editing as simple as "select and delete".... :D For my personal taste it improved the song 150%. The best part is, is you wouldn't even notice if you were to hear it like this for the first time. You would never know that anything else was supposed to be there as the instrumentation keeps it interesting so it doesn't feel like something is missing.

The actual "singing" in the song is awesome, that's the kind of stuff I like... Good instrumentation, good lead vocals, and good harmonies. And besides the screamo and the short blasts of machine gun drumming (which I'm not fond of either) this song has all of that.

OK there is some bass! Subwoofer works! Too much, really, tighten that up. Snare is out of balance too.

I like phaser on the guitar. Vocals need lots of work in terms of tuning or covering up  but I like some of the panning you've done.

As an aside, I'm a big metal fan from my teenage days (before screamo), but I'm neutral on screams, growls, etc., so I don't care if they are in or out, so long as there's no holes left behind :)

This is a nice mix, a bit busy in the highs. I don't have a lot to say, really.

 Did I miss your link

BLEYRAD: I like your intro, but the kick drum is overpowering at times dude. The lo end on the kick is controlled as you said but theres too much of it. I like the extended vox at around 1:30. (is that exteneded vox?).
Not bad.
Dont like the screams at the end being panned. Hmmm.

My 2 pennys.

THAJEREMY: Sounds like you need to balance your sides more. Strange sounding EQ going on somewhere. Good use of dynamics at times.
Sounds a tiny tad thin to me.

Any takers on reveiwing my third mix please?

http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/file.php?fid=1141

Ooh you picked up some nice things in the bass guitar. I like bass :D Nice stereo spread. There's some weird panning in the guitars near the end; doesn't work for you. The extended scream is a nice touch, although a bit too obviously looped. It needs to fade just a little.

After the intro, I'd make the snare sound less martial, and bring down the kick during the verses.

Overall this is a very good mix.

Yes.

In the 2 machine gun drum sections at [0:30 to 0:44] and [1:53 to 2:07] the high hats are a bit loud. But on a second and third listen, they don't seem out of control. Also from [2:04 to 2:07] there's a guitar type part that rises up on the right side, but then it just leaves at the section change. That felt a little jarring since it just dropped out without a bang or anything. The sustained scream at the end felt kinda weird. The only other comment I have is that it could use more bass guitar.

Overall, it's a quite nice mix, but that may be because it sounds like what I'm trying to get rather than the "best mix", i dunno. Also I've heard this song way too many times. I should probably work on some of my own stuff for a bit.

Ooh, ooh, now do me!!...i mean review my mix if you don't mind. Then when you're done you can do me....i mean....oops. Double

Ok, here's my 2nd try:

I widened the guitars a bit, added a subtle reverb on one snare track and lifted the vocals up a bit... please lemme know what you think! :)

This mix is the shizz-nizz!..The only thing i could comment on is the kick sounding to "trigger-ish" to me..but thats just my personal taste!
