Try #3. I fixed a few things and did a bit of automation, a touch of EQ and hardly ANY compression at all. I'm trying to stay away from that if I can. HOWEVER!!!!!!

I took the mix to my neighbor's to listen on the only other CD player within six miles of me and his right channel was gone. So HELP ME!!!! Let me know what is wrong or needs work!

Thanks!

Jeff, sounds pretty good for the most part, but I noticed the main vocals is quite loud at times, and distorts. And it seems like something is missing, maybe eq'd quite low, or out of the sounds. I don't know what it is, but it does have a boxxy sound as NYMornigstar said.

Ok, I've done another mix, and gave it to Sonixx, and am not sure if I need to post a link also or not. Here is my latest attempt...

Thanks to both of you! I'll look into it if I get some time this afternoon.

Sounds a bit loud to me....near clipping. I think I like what I can hear of the vocals, so maybe just bring the levels down, and even them out.
Ed

Holy crap is that loud!!! :D

I had an extra hour or so today.

Yup, you're the first person who has done things that this song actually needed done. Like a bigger, wider guitar mix.
There's still some things I would do differently... but that's for the mix I'm about to do :)
Best one here so far I think, especially for an hour's work.

I was going to report that the download for the zip file isn't working, but after listening to the song I think I'll pass.

Get more stuff like pmc10 and I'll be back. ;)

If there was a "non-screamer" version of lyrics then it would be fine. I liked up until the singer started screaming his head off.... The harmonies and the instrumentation up until then was quite unique and interesting. But after the screaming, the song lost it's appeal. I could edit them out, but then there'd only be 1/4 of the lyrics left.

ok heres a rough draft....tear it up!

The vocals sound good to me. Some of the music seems squished or hidden. Prety good sounds overal though.

I had one hell of a time with it.
Mixed solely ITB with Vegas 5.0

Check it out and let me know how it stacks up.

Thanks

Bright. Bright bright bright! Cymbals sound boxy and a little phasy. Overall, boxy, compressed. Guitars are very suppressed. Need to open this bad boy up.

Edit: v2: It's more open. Cymbals improved somewhat. I still think you need to get the guitars out of the highs to give everybody there own space. Levels on the vocals are low in places. Kill the final reverb tail, this needs its hard end.

Ok, I take back my comment earlier. On second listen, it actually would be pretty easy to edit out the screams.... There's enough going on musically so that it won't sound like vocals are supposed to be there. If there was a lot of screaming during the verses or choruses, then that would probably be a different story.... Can you fix the zip file download link?

I don't know how much time I'll be able to spend on it, since I just started college again this week, but I'll mess with it when I can. Even if I don't get it done for the contest, I still like mixing every chance I can get so I'll just post it for comments/critiques.

PS. I was serious about putting up more stuff like pmc10, I loved that song!

here is my first attempt. I havent had much time to work on it. I pretty much just set levels a couple of days ago and didnt get time to start turning knobs till this morning.

It's the AM radio mix--no highs, no lows. Sorry dude, I'd start over :( I did like the brief bit of echo on the vocal at the end :o

Edit: OK, I'm behind: v2 is better on the highs, but the low end is only a little better, and the mix is still very closed.

Mt first attempt of circle

Ok,shred this one up. I barely proccessed anything, but the kick, snare and some vocals. 32 tracks.

I keep looking over tonight to see if my sub is off, but no, it's on

Well, process something. Start with backing vocals, maybe next the guitars.

How am I supposed to judge you  We're co-judges

It's in the top few so far. I'd like more processed backing vocals, maybe a bit fatter overall. I'm a bass player, so I think there's too much kick ;)

Interesting. Fairly closed; give it some air. One of the more distinctive vocal treatments. This could win style points, but needs more attention to basics.

Really, I was thinking I had to much low end, so I put some low cuts on the guitars. But you say, it had no low end
Back to the drawing board.............
