Public Mix Contest #12!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll do some detailed reviews tonight, but one thing I want to say in general is please do not just strap a limiter on the master bus and squish the life out of your mix. There are several entries where the master level hardly ever drops below -3db. No points will be awarded for the loudest mix (at least not by me), so there's no point in sacrificing quality for loudness.

giving it another shot. I adjusted some levels according to the comments I got...the difference Im hearing is hardly noticable.

Whoa.

A lot of low end flub going on there. The low end is walking all over the other tracks, IMO.

Some things are sitting well, but not in the low end.

Anyone else stuck w/32 track limitations? (ala PT LE users)
Is everybody using all the tracks? The keyboard3 is just not working for me, It just ruins the song for me.

Yeah, I'm using PTLE. I don't think I used any of the Bass2 tracks. Just submix the Toms to a stereo track and submix the different mics on the Bass, the Snare, and the Kick. Turn off the original raw tracks and you should be able to use all the remaining tracks independently.

If you dont mind my asking, what are you monitoring on? I hear a lot of low end but to me, it needs to be there...

Little late in the game, I know, but . . .

Is there any place online where I can download the giganta-file? All the links given so far do not seem to work for me right now.

Any suggestions or advice?

Thanks a plenty.

I got my webspace all worked out now. I found that I only had 512 mb of space and I just upgraded to a gig today...just for HR.com :) anyway, before I figured out what the problem was, I made 2 seperate .zip files; one for drums and one for the rest of the song. The drum zip can be found at:

www.jeremy-karen.com/hrstuff/circlepercussion.zip

Now that I have the space, the rest of the tracks are uploading right now. Sorry it has taken so long...but better late than never...

Wharfedales. The scarier part is that the low end on them trailes off around 85-100Hz, and the song still sounds low end heavy to me.

A good tip is to try and compare your mix with a well-recorded CD that you are very familar with that seems to translate well no matter where you play it.

Listening more carefully, I hear some phasing issues with the bass between left and right. Seems like left bass track (whatever you panned there) is out of phase, or the level is vastly lower than the other side, but I am leaning towards the phase issue.

sorry guys
the link is down till friday because my bandwith is almost used up
you can either download files from Thajeremy's server or pm me and i'll give the link to a few more people.

ill be posting the links in the morning...there will be 2 files..one for drums and one for everything else...

Ok, I got to listen to a few mixes this evening.
JazzMang, your latest: to me it sounded kind of boxxy. I think the correct terms might be mid heavy? Upper mids seem to drown out some of the other sounds, to me.

Detuned6: Yours sounds pretty good to me. I don't think I can properly help out with yours, as it's probably better than my latest attempt. Sorry dude, but nice mix.

Try #3. I fixed a few things and did a bit of automation, a touch of EQ and hardly ANY compression at all. I'm trying to stay away from that if I can. HOWEVER!!!!!!

I took the mix to my neighbor's to listen on the only other CD player within six miles of me and his right channel was gone. So HELP ME!!!! Let me know what is wrong or needs work!

Thanks!

7string, it sounds boxed. Try no compression and less verb.
