Im just getting used to my monitor source. (Sennheiser HD200s).
Its all about knowing the monitors you use, and knowing the flaws in monitors is a big part in getting a balanced tone. Its taken me 2 years to get to know my headphones. and im still learning.

I know people say headphones shouldnt be used for mixing but I found using Mackie HR824s arent as accurate although they do show the (harsh) high end more which I lack in my phones just now.

Eck

Bro....
Go save some bucks and get some monitors fer chrisake!!!

Youre gonna go deaf mixing on phones all the time, be careful with that shit.

You could be right there! I am pretty deaf at the moment. Could be a wax build up but also could be my ears packing in.

Im scared of loosing my hearing. Gonna def take that into acount. (no pun intended!)

Cheers Chris.

The quality of the vox recording is really good.
What mic(s) did you use?
Wild guess...Royer?
The tone sounds original.could be your voice that makes it sound so good or the mic choice.

Detund6's 3rd mix

All right, I made some changes, can someone let me no if I am on the right path.

Thanks \m/

I like how you are letting the guitars control the front line of the mix.

I dont like the vocal mix. Perhaps check out Kainz latest entry for a reference.

I like the audible compression on the kick. Kinda thumpy pumpy.

Mostly good but the choices made as the "lead" for vox im not diggin'.

Starting to sound good detuned..i'd listen to fin's 1st post and see how the vocals sound...its sounds like your using the background vox's as leads!

Okay, just listened to finster's mix, basically I am blending the backing vocals with the main vox track a little TOO much.

How's my low end?

Yeah, Im puting the guitars in front. A enginner buddy of mine allways said my mixs where a little drum dominate, "turn up those guitars, dude". I guess im going to much guitar.
Yeah the vocals, thats my struggle right now.

thanks

Toki, pretty quiet mix, but the sounds are all there. Actually, pretty full. I'm far from an engineer, so take it for what it's worth, but so far, nice mix. Drums sound very full. Lots of highs, and lows. Good guitar sound also. Sorry, can't help much, but I'd say pretty decent.
Ed

thanks Dogman :)

First I accidentally downloaded "Hiway Robbery" and I was think now THIS is an interesting take :o :o :o

OK, now that I'm no longer stupid:

Alright, unique take. I like the intro. The first bass note is out of control. In fact the bass throughout is problematic--it's causing stray peaks everywhere. There are troubles with backing-lead vocal balance during the verses.

These guitars seem immune to mixing--every version I hear I like 'em. Go figure.

Thanks man, I'm just at least happy I made it all the way thru. Trying to decide what to do with the bass was interesting, donga or doompa, and then where can it go.... I'll probably use this piece to hack on for a while if that's cool..
I need to get my monitors right too. I got 12's and they fool me on the bass. I sprinted quickly thru those vocals from sheer brain and ear fatigue. I`ll take it apart and put it back together again in a few days.

Okay, here is my new one. I would be glad if someone could confirm if the overall bass is in order. :)

I think I finally got those vox to sit at least somewhat... :p

The link to the mp3

I'm starting to be somewhat statisfied to this mix.. Now I only have to "master" it. There are some annoying mid freq. bumps I would like to EQ out. Also maby just a little limiting/compressing and I think it should be quite done..
Theres alot of noise at the intro, its a buzzing sound. I think its on the bass or guitar.
Sounds like a good balance although lacking some life.

Im coming close to my final mix.

This aint my final mix even though its called final mix, made a mistake.
Added a cool intro, not thought of an ending yet. Thats the hard bit.
Im happy with it.
Any things jump out at yous at all?
Hows the intro Finster, i think you might like this intro. :)

My main comment about this mix is that it is lob-sided. All the high guitar parts are panned to the right which makes the mix lean that way.
Oops. Thanks for pointing that out. The left-side high guitar part was accidentally turned down.
The guitars are a little thin sounding.
From my perspective, the guitars in yours and every other mix here are the thin-sounding ones while mine actually have some meat content. Matter of taste I guess.
The mix has absolutely no dynamics.
Again, from my perspective, the other mixes here have too much dynamics compared to similar reference tracks.
In my experience, dynamics sound good on studio monitors played loud, but I'm a fan of an overly-smooth sound for consumer speakers at normal playing volumes. I'm mixing to translate.
I like the way you rearranged the song and some of your effects ideas.
Thanks.
Anyway, I considered a bit of what you had to say and compromised at some halfway point. My new mix:

Bleyrad. Dig the intro dude. Sick stuff. What did you do?
Vocals dont seem to fit at the start. Not a mix issues more a timing issue or something.
Dynamics are good although not enough IMO. Drums are ok.

Good mix dude.

Heh, the intro sounds like it may be the intro to a techno song.

The screams being far panned and quiet at the end...not feelin that so much.

The singing vox? SWEET!!!! nice one!

The revese thing at the end i dont like either, but the first reverse thing is cool, all though it is a tad too loud.

Also, there is too much in the high mids in this mix, where exactly its coming from im not sure.
