i agree. guys used to tell me they were using pro tools. i was impressed until i found out that they were just running the program on a pc and didn't have the full blown rig of a Trent Reznor or Lenny Kravitz.
 
sonusman, i must have been misinformed. i have read on many sites that there are programs that are superior to pro tools out there for reasonable prices. sorry.
 
i like cubase's brilliant vst implementation. you can't get that sort of tight midi/vsti/audio relationship in protools. i guess it depends what you need it for. cubase 32 rocks my world.
and from everything i've read, protools is SCARED! the reason they have been #1 is because they have DSP cards. but with processors getting faster and third party dsp cards getting cheaper, it looks like the "lesser" competition is closing in on them. a lot of professionals chose not to use protools. i've used it a bit, but it didn't do the midi stuff i wanted it to. anyways, gotta go finish up my 24-bit 24-track magnum opus on my g4 laptop with cubase now...later.
