Flailing up a storm.
I have an old lafayette tube amp that i love the sound of, put a celestian vintage 30 in it, some new tubes and it sounds amazing (to my ears).
The trouble is that it is old, and has a simple two prong cord, and is not grounded in any significant way that i can see. It was made by univox, and looks like this:

this guys page seems to get into details with it as well:

It has a lot of internal hum, especially when turned up. I am ok with a soldering iron, and would love to upgrade any components that would be pretty straight forward (like replacing cap a with cap b). I am not fantastic with skematics or actual know-how though.

So advice: Is this somethign i can do myself at least adding a ground to make it a bit more safe and possibly do something to reduce the hum?

What steps should i take to avoid killing myself before i get in there?

Thanks.

i doubt you can do anything wrong in simply adding a ground wire to the chasiss of this... that being said... mosylikely the hum is coming from the power supply... ya might want to check to see how much ripple is on the high voltage line...
