Hello, i just got my m-audio profire 610 today, tried it out but i am only getting sound on the left. I have a regular headphone size, connected to the larger headphone jack thats plugged into the profire. Connected through firewire into my computer. I understand this has to do with mono / Stereo , i guess im getting stereo sound when i can only hear mono? help me out this is driving me crazy, thanks.

Do you mean you're getting only hearing one side of the headphones?

From reading the manual, if you're plugged into Channel 1 you only get one side in the headphones. If you're plugged into Channel 2 you get the other side in the headphones.

I plug my guitar into my mixer, and send mains out to Channel 1 and 2 of my interface. I hear the guitar in both headphones. But I only record mono from input 1.

My friend's UA101 does the same thing - Input 1 - L Input 2 - R. Unless you can combine these somehow you're gonna get a one sided issue.

ohhh! wow, okay thank you . So when im recording vocals, i will only beable to hear the one side unless i have the head phones plugged into the computer's sound ?

You may be able to change a setting in the control panel for the Profire that will allow you to hear it in both sides. Look for monitoring or mono input monitoring.

I had this issue once. Turned out I hadn't plugged my headphones in all the way.:o

Most interfaces work this way. Input 1 and 2 are L & R when recording in stereo. A guitar or a mic is only a mono signal though, so either in the Profire software, or in your DAW, change input 1 and 2 to mono inputs, and you will get both sides giving you the same mono signal.

According to the manual it look like its just an adjustment to the Pan knobs in the profire's control panel(This is the same with my M-Audio Fast Track Pro).

They may be panned out L and R, center them and you should have it in both ears.

Are you plugged into a line out instead of a headphone out? The line outs are mono, and if you plug a headphone into them you will only hear audio on your left.

If you are plugged into the headphone jack, what exactly is coming out the left, something being played back from the DAW or something you're trying to record?

If it's something you're playing back, is the track stereo with audio only on the left, or is it a mono track that has been panned left?

If it's what you're trying to record then there should be a provision in the interface for monitoring the input in mono so it's in both ears.
