Hi guys..

What processor and motherboard do you suggest me?

I already have Athlon AMD 750Mhz and bought a Aardvark 24/96 card and want to make some changes of the processor and motherboard..

I want to go on Athlon again..What chipset is best?

Want something really fast.. Any suggestions?

P.S. Info! I already have 256 RAM and 30 Gb Matrox HDD..

Thanx

Why do you want to change boards/mpu would be my first question.

If it's because of compatiblity, I'd suggest going with an intel product. Asus CUSL2-C and a PIII 1GHz should work ok.

But, I'd suggest contacting Aardvark first and see if they have any problems with the ASUS CUSL2. Assuming it's a compatibility problem.

If your dead set on AMD, ask Aardvark what they recommend. Email them or phone them, I've dealt with them in the past and they are a good company for getting info from.

I repeat

The Asus cusl2, kick ass board, I see allot of high MHZ athlon users wanting to upgrade for some reason, probably just one of those feelings in your stomach that a 1200 will be so much better, news flash, it won't, the P3 has a much better design in the area of FPU, although the mhz race caused a slowdown in improved design. The P3 is still king of audio. (FPU, frontal processing unit, dedicated to multimedia) AMD threw one together when they made the athlon, but the quallity isn't the same. AMD benchmark tests are mostly based on games, overclocking and Office applications. AMD is a CACHE based processor, while audio is streaming through. I'm sure someone will send you to www.tomshardware.com . they have nothing to do with real world audio recording, according to them the SBlive is one of the best soundcards.

now then back to P3
although the P3 1000 may save you a couple seconds per editing operation, the 800 is the best price to performance processor, your soundcard will be a larger factor in your recording/ playback performance than any processor over 700 Mhz.

I only say this if your dead set on changing your Mobo and Processor, the system you have should be great for recording. I'd get a second hard drive, more memory, add a SBlive for soundfonts, and or upgrade the software or make an instrument/sound module/Mixer/Mike/etc... uprade first, your AMD 750 should be fine, by the time you get what you need in other things, the AMD/P3 10000 should be out and the 8000 pretty cheap.

think about it, if the raw mhz race never happened there might be processors dedicated to specific purposes, the 550 DAW, the 500 Gamer, the 650 Server,Etc and (to repeat) the P3 is the daw 733-1400(P4), for now anyway... BTW I am pro AMD, but not in a DAW.

to conclude, if you must upgrade your mobo go pentium. if not work around your already kick ass system.

yeah, why do you want an upgrade?

You have a more than enough system to do any sort of recording. save your money and get something else! :)

Funky...

If you decide to stay with AMD tell how does the Aardvark is working with your system... I'm looking for a soundcard for my AMD based system, that is working as it supposed to...
