problems with tascam us122

i can't record anything i've tried playing guitar, singing and nothing is happening. i'm using cubase the free software to record with and nothing can be heard. what shall i do? my laptop is a week old so it has all the requirements i have windows xp.
 
you probably need to activate the VST plugins for the US-122 or else you need to set the US-122 as your default ASIO driver in the program.
 
i have no idea what to do

iv'e plugged in my guitar to the tascam and it's picking it up because the signal flashes green everytime i play it. so the tascam is working fine. i think. i've also tuned my guitar using it too. in cubase vst i can't hear anything other than the beep thing when i record. please can someone tell me have to tell the cubase software that i'm using the tascam. please can someone go through it step by step because i'm lost.

i've given up so i'm gonna sell it......
from this experience i've learnt that if i want to do some home recording i'm gonna have to treck to london with my laptop and let someone who knows what they are doing set up music software/applience.
tascam us-122 does seem very ropey alot of people have had problems.

Whoa, there, cowboy. A lot of people have had great success with the US122. (The song in my signature line was recorded with mine.) If you've tuned the guitar using the US122 it's talking to the computer correctly. Now, let's figure out why you can't hear anything. What do you have hooked up to the US122 outputs? You'll need and amp and monitors. Are you hearing the metronome through the laptop's speakers? If so, then you don't have the US122 set as the soundcard. You've got a great box to go with your laptop and it's mostly working. Don't give up so easily!
 
You know, I had the same problem. What's your setup? I have Cakewalk PA9 and everything works fine, except for a latency issue that I'm trying to resolve. OK, back to your problem....What exactly do you have connected to the US-122? In order to get sound, you must configure your PC/laptop to use the US-122 as it's playback and recording source. ((Control Panel ---> Sounds & Multimedia ---> Audio tab). Then, you have to set your Cubasis software to use the US-122 as it's source to receive and playback instead of your sound card. That's the first step. Then, make sure the your guitar is in one of the guitar inputs and not a line input on the US-122. Plug in your headphones, and turn on Direct Monitoring. You shouldn't have any problem hearing anything from your PC or your guitar. If you have any more problems, just let me know.
