Hi there folks,

I've been having some problems with recording in stereo on Cubase SX. I use stereo audio tracks, there are two waves indicating a stereo track (see the image below), and I exported to stereo interleaved mp3, 44.1 kHz, etc..

However, the actual audio file, the mp3, seems to be in mono! I took it into a studio at Uni, where the speakers are much better than mine, and it sounds mono. Also, I've compared the finished tracks with professionally produced material, ie steve vai, satriani, etc and there is a clear difference, and not just in guitaring!

Any suggestions. PLEASE GO TO www.myspace.com/jimmywelburn to listen to a couple of tracks (Run Outta Fuel is the most obvious one) and let me know what I'm doing wrong!

Cheers!

Jimmy

make sure you are still exporting it as a stereo track. when you switch it to mp3 I think it automatically does to mono (there is a seperate drop down menu for mono/stereo) or if you are using another audio converter make sure it is converting it in stereo.

Sorry if this is a newbish question, Whats the point/benefit of recording a stereo track when its the same mic (and same thing?) on the same channel? Wouldnt it make more sense to use two sources and two tracks?

hey,

I set that thread up a while ago for a slightly different reason. the problem there was that the file in fact was saved as a mono file.

But now, the problem is everything is stereo on paper, but it just doesnt sound stereo, and i think possibly this may be due to the fact that the drums i used (off the net) may be in mono, in which case, everythin i've done is fine, apart from the fact that the drum loops ive used are cheap mono ones.

If anyone has any time to check out myspace.com/jimmywelburn then I'd appreciate clarification on whether you can tell if it's mono, or whether the drums are, or not, etc...

cheers

Recording a single mic to a stereo track is really dual mono. You're only using up more hard drive space.
