problems with echo mia midi

So i bought myself this piece of art.. but I have some questions for the experts.

1) I'm coming from a gaming card (creative audigy), when I recorded my voice I could hear myself singing. So I could here the audio coming into the microphone input. But how does it work with the echo mia midi? Is there a way I could hear myself singing while recording it? I can't find it...

2) There are two inputs. Both analog mono inputs. Do I get stereo audio when I plug in my microphone into the XLR input of my mixer, and then go from a left and a right output channel of the mixer to input 1 and input 2 of my soundcard? Do I need mono cables or sterio cables for this? I heard mono cable to mono input can damage the audiocard...

3) How can I connect my sterio headphone to mia? Is there some connection "thing" that I can use to transform the two analog mono outputs to one sterio output for my headphone? Or do I need a mixer with headphone output again? I also have a cheap headphone with a sterio output, is it bad for the mia card to connect it (without amp) to one of the outputs, so I can use it to monitor when I'm singing to one of my tracks?

some background information: I use a rhode NTK (with ntk power supply) and a behringer mic2200 preamp. Windows XP. I record with cool edit pro.

If you know the answer to one of my question you could make me a happy man!

Mia Connections

Dear Friend,

MIA is not supplied with headphone outs. The outputs on the card are basically meant to be feeded into a mixer or a power amp for monitoring. If u need to hear your singing u should first feed the outputs of the MIA into a mixer or amp which has a headphone out option (known as a cue section in the mixer). Then connect your headphone to the mixer or amp. The inputs are mono but that does not mean that u cant record stereo tracks if your mic pre amp has two outs feed them both into the MIA's inputs. Keep your mic panned to center and make sure both the outs on the mic pre are giving signals to the Mia's inputs. You can check this by viewing MIA's software console and checking the analog inputs. Hope this information helps you.

Hey thanks rocknrolldude,

I have a new problem with my new Echo Mia Midi. I installed the driver 6.7 for XP. But I would like to hear the things I’m recording thru my monitors. I checked the manual and it says I have to take a look at the settings tab in the echo properties window. There I have to find the option “monitor during playback”. But I don’t find it. I will make it clear with some jpg’s. This is how it should look according to the manual: http://foodnews.be/prob2.jpg and this is how it looks in my situation: http://foodnews.be/prob1.jpg How can I solve this problem? I hope somebody can help me with this!

Are you sure you have your cables and sequencer program set up properly???

The Mia naturally lets you monitor while recording; no special button-pushing is neccesary.

The inputs and outputs of the Mia are mono, yes... but it's a stereo pair. One is left and one is right.

You will need either powered speakers, a stereo amp with speakers or a headphone amp to listen to the output.

Kinda like this attached pic....
