Not sure where this should go...

I have a toneport UX2. With my desktop computer it works fine and dandy. But I bought a toshiba laptop to use as my official recording computer and it is having an issue.

As I play I will just occasionally get "glitches". Or some sort of electrical static thing going. I am not exactly sure how to describe it but here's my best attempt.

Every once and a while the sound will click in and out real quick. Almost like when you are plugging a cord in to a guitar and already have the amp on. Sometimes its just one little click/pop thing and other times its a couple in rapid succession.

I told my wife and she suggested perhaps it was from having the laptop plugged in via the adapter and maybe there was too much juice going on or whatever. I tried using it just battery and it seemed to be fine and then I plugged it in and it gave me click/pop/glitches.

So I thought maybe I had figured it out. But unfortunately later on as I was hoping to start recording myself it did these things without the adapter being plugged in. I have it on the table with my laptop, but I also tried putting it on the floor, that didn't help it either.

I have used different instrument cables and headphones so I know that it can't be either of those. And I recorded playing my guitar to check what would happen in recording and there is no pop in the recording. Just a "glitch". Whatever I am playing as it happens just jumps.

If I were playing "1 2 3 4" and it popped in the middle there it would playback as "1 4" without any silence or anything in between. I guess it records it all glitchy like that.

Anyways, this could be a problem with the laptop or the toneport or whatever but I am hoping someone can decipher what I am saying and maybe has an idea of how to fix it.

I just popped out money I don't have on this laptop so I need to make this work :)

Thanks

P.S. Just wanted to add that it is not just when I am recording but does it even if I am just jamming out through gearbox.

Sometimes laptops have issues with the battery when recording bud,UX1 and 2 can be very twitchy, try removing battery when its plugged in to see if that helps,
What are your hardware settings ie.16 or 24 bit?

Are you using monitors or the laptop speakers?

Removing the battery while its plugged in? What do you mean? How do I do it?

I also don't know how to check hardware for 16/24...

But I do know that the tonport uses USB to run to the computer, but it outputs through its own headphone jack. So I am using headphones.

Theres another recent thread here about clicks and pops from someone wiht the same problem on a desktop. Shut down everything else thats running in the background on the laptop, for a start.

I don't have anything running that I know of. Unless my wireless internet counts.

If you are going to be recording remove battery before starting laptop then plug in and boot up,if you go to control panel you will see line 6 icon with 2 little cogs this is where you acess settings or from preferences in gearbox.
Probably best you check line 6 website sounds like you need to set UX2 as your laptops default sound card aswell.

If you get stuck on anything give me a shout and I will give you step by step instructions on how to set up your Ux2 for your laptop.

Its not a toshiba equium by any chance is it?

What recording software are you using?

Just noticed new post, dont have it running when using gearbox or recording, kill antivirus software aswell, play havoc when they are on

Its a toshiba satellite. I am using Cool Edit Pro 2.0 for recording. Don't think I need it set as my default sound card. i specify stuff like that in Cool Edit for it to record with. Don't have any anti-virus stuff running.

I think I may have got an answer from the Line 6 forums but I don't know how to execute it so I need to wait till either they answer me or maybe someone here knows how to do it.

The guy over there said:

"Yes, this can be a common problem but its nothing to do with electricity.
Try increasing the buffer size in the L6 drivers and upping the latency slider."

Already explained how to access these settings, maybe nows time to get manual out,its in gearbox too.:D
