I wrote to SP tech support and haven't received a reply yet so hopefully forum members can help. I'm only able to get a very low (unusable) signal from the B1 condenser. It is connect by XLR to a Yamaha MG10/2 mixer. Phantom power is on. MicPre Gain, channel level and main level have been raised near maximum. The mixer and cable have been tested as OK with my other microphones. I'm playing in very close proximity to the microphone.
No physical damage is apparent.

thanks

Is it your only condenser of do you have other condensers you can try on the Yamaha in order to find out whether the phantom power is working or not?

Is the cable an XLR->XLR (on both ends) with it being plugged into the XLR (MIC) input on the mixer?

Do a search and you’ll find tons of Studio Projects problem threads… maybe you find what others did that had the same problems as you. Good luck.

Here's a quick example of some SP problems that have been posted on this bbs... do a search and you'll find tons more.

Don, I guess you did a search for 'Studio Projects' and 'problem' didn't you?

Have you tried DJL and problems? :D

Without opening Pandora's Box on the whole SP issue, do give them a call at the number listed in Big Kenny's post. They should take care of you quickly and professionally.

That's all I'm going to say.

LOL... yeah, I'm one of the few who speak up :D ... anyway, too bad this new Home Recording bbs software doesn't have a better search that goes back further and had the better search features that our old bbs search engine had... there have been a lot of Studio Project problems posted over the years. The point is... sathyan, isn't the first to write SP tech support and not receive a reply "yet"... so (while waiting for a reply from SP) they came to this forum for help... and because there have been so many Studio Projects problem threads posted in the past on this bbs there is a good chance that if sathyan does a search they would most likely fiind another thread with a similar problem and learn from it.

Sathyan,

Just to let you know, we get some 35,000 e-mails each day. We do not have the time to go through each one, so our Spam Filter goes to work for us. Unfortunately, depending on how you e-mailed us, or what was said, it is possible your request was filtered out.

I suggest you call us toll free at 1-877-563-6335, or resend you're e-mail to me personally at alan@pmiaudio.com in the subject please type Tech Help Needed, and I will get it. We will be happy to try and solve you're problem on the phone, or at worst, we will ask you to send it in and we will fix it for free and send it back. We do not ask for any warranty information as we fix all of our goods new or used.

Despite what DJL says here, the problems we have are very few based on the quantities of B1's we sell. DJL is here to simply cause trouble, so it is best to ignore people like that. In either case, the B1 is a fine mic, and its defective ratio is less than one half of the acceptable industry standard. The B1 is a very reliable microphone, and if yours has a problem, we are happy to assist you.

I am sorry if your first contact did not work, it is just we receive huge amounts of e-mail, and yours seemed to be one of those that gets by...

I have no idea how many Studio Projects mic problems PMI solves daily... I was only poniting out that if sathyan does a search on this mic bbs they would most likely find another thread with a similar Studio Projects problem and learn from it.

PS... I didn't slam any of your Studio Projects products in this thread... but I can if that's what you and your followers want me to do. I bet there will be a flock of your followers who will now start insulting me and etc... what do you want to bet... lol.

Please don't insult our intelligence. You were doing what you always do. It's just another one trick pony and we've all seen its trick.

Sathyan, try following Alan's suggestion and I expect you'll be pleasantly surprised by the result. Hope it works out well.

Sure, there's 9 people who have had problems with the SP B1 on this forum, but I bet there's thousands who haven't had a problem whatsoever.
That's the nature of the beast. It's hard to get 100% perfection in a business.
And I assure DJL is not 100% perfect either, so he should stop being a PITA...

Just send the mic to Alan and it'll all be sorted out. Even if you were a conspiracy theorist (like someone else around here) and thought that PMI's customer care is actually rubbish - now that it's in the public domain it'll get sorted because if not you'll be typing your dissatisfaction for thousands to read.

But whatever - I bet it gets sorted quicker than if you sent it to Sennheiser.

Don, that was asking for trouble mate, you'd know Alan is watching you!

To be honest (and you know that) I think the B1 is a great mic, considering it's price.

Let me tell you what happened last week, one of my B1's fell on the floor and got a serious dent in the top grill.

I unscrewed the housing and fixed the dent with a drumstick, it looks like new and it still sounds like new, no problemo bro!

Yesterday I had to record an upright bass and I used the B1 aimed at the fingerboard and a Neumann M149 in omni aimed at the bridge.
The sound of the B1 was exactly what I was after, a bit tubby, but very nice in the mix. The M149 sounded much too boomy, so I put it next to the B1, aimed at the fingerboard also.

This morning I was mixing the song and still liked the sound of the B1 more than the M149, curious eh?

Besides all this, how many B1's are sold and how many will last for many years? Sometimes a microphone gets broken, happens with Neumann's Sennheiser's, Beyer's and.........you name it.

Perhaps the next time one of your SP slams gets quoted we should include the entire thing to lessen the likelihood of revisionist editing.

Now I actually understand what you're saying, and it makes sense. It's just like when all the other newbs come here wanting to know: "What's the best damn microphone for vocals under $ X ?"

Use the damn search function. The question's been answered before.

I get where you're going with this, but you had to have known it could have been taken 2 ways. :D

I agree with you, though, that this forum isn't a Studio Projects help desk or tech support, so it baffles me why people feel the need to come here to report a problem. Maybe they think they'll get faster / better service if they come here because they have "witnesses" or something. I do wish these guys would learn how to pick up the damn phone, though . . . and I'm sure Alan does, too.

Han,

We have replacement bodies for all the B Series mikes, so if you can't fix one of those dents, let me know, we can get you a new one.

As for sales of B1's, lets just say we sell a ton of them. There must be a reason we are selling so many of them, but I am pleased we are doing well with the B1. The C1 still out sells the B1...

So, thanks to all the supporters out there... :D
