problem with audigy2 line in
hi all, heres the prob. well i have a p4 2.4gig,512 ram, audigy2 pc(among other components that are irelivent i think). any time i plug into my line in port on the sound card, wether im just listening to the sound or recording it, it only comes out of the left side. when i go to the mixer window and move the paning slider for the line in on either record or playback, the sound fades to nothing while panning right. now the cords and adapters that i have, im pretty sure are not incorrect cause i have used many different istrument and speaker cables with a few different1\4"-to-1\8" adapters. has anyone else had this problem or heard of someone who has or know how to fix it. your help is greatly appreciated. if you need to know more details please ask.

Try using a stereo plug for your line in.

A normal guitar chord is mono. You can split the signal with a y adapter(single female end, dual male ends) from the mono source, then use a stereo plug adapter(dual female ends and one stereo male end. That won't give you stereo but it should give you a signal on both left and right channels.

I had this problem. You have to go from the source to a 1/4" mono ==> 1/8" stereo adapter ==> cable ==> sound card.

can you do this

can you just do this: go from the source to a 1/4" mono ==> 1/8" stereo adapter ==> sound card? If not, what kind of cable? just a cable with a male and female end?

There is 2 things that have to happen for this to work. You need to split a mono signal to a stereo plug and you need to reduce from 1/4" plug down to 1/8" somewhere along the line. Go to radioshack and ask tell them what to do. They'll be able to help you for just a couple dollars. Keep in mind this will not be a true stereo signal.

Just pan that input to center in your recording software. Either way you should get a Stereo to Dual Mono breakout cable so you can plug in mono sources.

for the record TexRoadKill, the pan slider in the windows mixer is set to the center. when i go left nothin changes, just the same level out of the left side, but as i go right the level fades away

for the record TexRoadKill, the pan slider in the windows mixer is set to the center. when i go left nothin changes, just the same level out of the left side, but as i go right the level fades away. and panning after the fact of somthing being recorded defeats my purpose, cause i'd like to here where every thing(drums for example)is spacially before i record and mess with things

hey guys heres what i found out and did.
first, i found out for sure that the cables im using are mono. and the 1\4"-1\8" adapters are stereo. so that led me to think that the adapter is the problem. So... I jsut got back from radio shack. bought a mono 1\4"-1\8" adapter and plugged my guitar(via the mono guitar chord)in and there is aboslutley no difference. now im really confused. If you have a mono source going to a mono cable going to a mono adapter, shouldnt every thing come out mono?
