Pro Tools On Windows

Before all the Mac people jump down my throat, is anyone out there using Pro Tools on a Windows machine and how's it working out for you?

What version of PT and windows are you interested in?
I currently run on mac, but I ran on XP up until v 7.X, if memory serves.

ProTools runs just fine on Windows as long as you're running the appropriate version for the OS, and you observe the hardware guidelines set down by AVID.
They test and certify certain hardware; If you step outside of that, you're kinda on your own.

Probably be 10 or 11 HD Native. Been running 10 on a 3ghz 8 core intel 20gig ram Mac, not overly impressed with the performance. Noticed I can put together a 12 core intel Windows machine with good components for about half the price.

Yeah, you probably build something for much cheaper.

Two things I'd do, especially at that price point -
Check avid for motherboard etc compatibility, and google on other audio forums for people already using that particular setup.
Somewhere where people have money. Gearslutz maybe?

yeah, gearslutz is a pain in the arse. As soon as you mention Windows you get bombarded by Mac freaks and never get a proper answer! Thought I might try here as you lot seem far more reasonable, and figured some might have gone down that path to save money.

I will take you advice on the motherboard, chipsets seem to be the crucial factor for getting things to work.

Yeah, sorry. I didn't mean that to sound like 'move along'.
I just duno how many people around here have computer builds that hefty.
The protools population is pretty small around here, but who knows.

I'd be inclined to do some serious research into benchmarks and comparisons between the mac and anything you might build.
I mean, that mac should be beast!
