Pro Tools free allows you to save a mixdown of individual trax to allow a real time hassle free mix but do Logic Audio, and Qubase do the same. I have a delta 1010, but want to find out which is the best s/ware to run with it?

Suggestion

ProTools free is buggy still, and track limited. CuBase is a better bet, and Cakewalk or Sonar an even better bet than that. If you like ProTools (hard not to) check out the Digi001, comes with 24 track capability and an 8 input soundcard with 2 mic pres on it for less than $1000, much cheacper than the $8000 deluxe protools system... make sure your computer is up to par no matter WHAT you use, very important... i dont suggest anything less than a medium fast Pentium 3 and 256mgs of ram....

I notice that smashingpumpkin made absolutely no mention of cakewalk. Personally I think if you're considering Cubase and Logic audio, then cakewalk would seem to be a step down.

With your delta 1010 I would recommend Logic Audio Platinum, although it does have a higher learning curve than cubase. If you want to get into recording quicker then I would say go with Cubase, since you will learn it quicker than Logic Audio.

Pro Tools LE with the Digi001 is a good package except that the protools LE software interface, or lack thereof, could use some more work.

Cakewalk

The only reason I really brought up Cakewalk is because I've had stability issues every time I've tried to use Cubase... pops and clicks and locks things up, on a number of different stations. I've checkout out Logic, but have no experience with it, and the ProTools stuff is rather proprietary and doesnt play well with others, and alot of people on Digidesigns forum are bitching alot. Cakewalk is nice and stable, for the most part, and Sonar may actually be a step up from Cubase, maybe even easier to use. All subjective, I guess... pends on whatcha want/need/like/desire... I'm going Sonar for now, probably Nuendo when they get the main bugs out.
Peace,
Paul
