Pro Tools 9 not recognising Audio interface as an input.

Since I bought Pro Tools 9 I've normally always had my output as the two speaker monitors, but recently I decided to save some space on my small desk and change to the built-in output on my iMac. When I do this and create an audio track on Pro Tools to record, it doesn't recognise the audio interface for some reason. When I click the input drop down on the track and go to 'interface' there aren't any options from that menu.

If I plug the speaker monitors back in through the audio interface and change the output options, I can choose the input correctly and arm/enable the track to record.
I made sure I had the latest driver for my Audio interface and updated to Pro tools 9.0.6 and then re-installed pro tools 9. I still have the same problem.

The audio interface is the M-AUDIO MobilePre USB but I don't think that's the problem.

When I get to I/O setup from the tool bar there is nothing set but I can't choose any of the options like 'New path' etc because they are all greyed out.
The only ones that arent greyed out are the ones down at the bottom - 'Import settings' and 'Export settings'

I can click import settings and choose Last used for example but when I set the input as 'in 1' and try to arm the track/enable record it comes up with the message 'the track could not be record-enabled because it doesn't have both an active input and output assigned'

Has anyone had a similar problem or have a solution?

Thanks
Luke

So, built in works fine for in and out, but maudio doesn't?

Sounds like you need to pick the device for use.

Going on memory, go to setup / playback engine and pick your maudio from the list.

Then go to I/O where you described.
Delete all outputs and click default,
Delete all inputs and click default.

Should be good to go now.

That lets me record but then it doesn't play through the built-in speakers on the iMac. It will probably play if i plug in the speakers but that would defeat the point

Thanks!

Oh, you want to record from the maudio and then playback through built in?

Since you're on an imac, that's easy.

Go to audio/midi setup in utilities, and click on pro tools aggregate device.
(Go to finder, Hit shift-apple-u, and click audio/midi setup)

Make sure it includes built in and maudio.

Now do the steps above in protools but select aggregate device as your hardware.

Continue with the deleting IO paths and hitting default etc.

Should be you.

Ok thanks. On 'Pro tools aggregate I/O' Which options do I want 'Resample' ticked? and do I want them all ticked for 'use' or just built-in output and the maudio?

It seems to work, thanks a bunch!

If you set each device to have the same sample rate in audio/midi setup, then it wont need to resample within the aggregate device.

Just pick whatever ones you want to show up in pro tools. :)

Every time you add or remove a device from the aggregate you'll have to reset the IO in protools again.

Thank you Steenamaroo! This saved me a LOT of time and aggravation!
