I am upgrading my recording setup from a Presonus Firepod (it died) and Adobe Audition 1.5. I have been using this setup for a loooong time, and have decided to go with Pro Tools. Now, do I go with a Digi 002 or 003 Rack with PT8 LE, or go with a different interface and get PT9? Thanks,

I'd recommend a different interface and PT9 for a few reasons.

You'll get better bang for buck buying a different interface over a 003.

PT9 has automatic delay compensation (which PT should have had years ago!)

For these two reasons i sold my 003 and bought a motu 828 and PT9.
I made about £800 back doing that!!!!!

THe 002+3 pres are questionable and you only get 4 of them. TBH, another firepod would be way better unless you want room for adat expansion?

What's up with yours? Perhaps it's fixable?

Another vote to go with 9.

For the only reason that it has delay compensation (something you took for granted with Audition, trust me).

It's fucking stupid that Avid didn't have this sooner.

Agreed that there are better interfaces for the price, but any third party device is still limited in PT9. Anything other than the digi stuff does not have an option for low latency monitoring. Now most people seem to be okay with lowering the buffer size or using some sort of mixer, but I have had many clients notice even the slightest delay when tracking with my Motu interface. Always keep coming back to the 002 to skip the hassle. I know there are updates out for 9, but I haven't updated so maybe they changed that?

Anyway another vote for for PT 9, I prefer Digi hardware for the latency issue, but the software is great either way.

Right, you can use PT9 with a Digi interface. It does seem a bit smoother, although I did sell my Digi 002 once I got PT9. I use PT9 with a MOTU setup and there are some annoying things once in a while where the software doesn't recognize all the I/O. I am using a 96 channel setup though, so there is a bit to keep track of. There were no problems like that with the Digi 002.

Might be worth looking into that.

I didn't notice any change in latency/buffer options.
