Pro 9 and Echo Mia

Im having trouble getting anywhere with my new soundcard and Cakewalk.

Heres the Set-up:

Mic to Pre via XLR
Pre to Echo Mia via Digital Coaxial

The input clock on my card is set to S/PDIF and I can see activity in the Mia monitor.

I tried recording in windows sound recorder, and that recorded and played back fine. Just no sound in cakewalk.

Any info and advice is greatly appreciated.

Ok, I figured out the problem, but still not sure why there was a problem.

I had to go to sounds and devices in the control panel and change "sound recording" in the "audio" tab to analog instead of digital. When ever its set to digital, only analog is available cakewalks track properties under source. When its set to analog its just the opposite, I can now select Digital in as my source in cakewalk.

Why is this?
