the problem with an MPC is that, it isnt as "out of the box" as reason.
What I mean is, reason has a TON of sounds, already there for you to use.
an MPC dosnt. you need other gear to get the sounds.

True- but someone who is interested in music production WILL have albums, that's a given. Even if it isn't vinyl, the user probably has tapes/CDs to sample from. Also, I think (never tried the MPC1000) that the 1000 comes with a Def Jam sample disk. Still, I recommend getting a used MPC2000, MPC60 or MPC3000 instead of a MPC1000.

i agree the 1000 is cool, but Id get a used 2000xl...Depending on what kind of music you doing would help the recomendation as well...cause each MPC has its own charactersitics...the only ones I would steer clear is the 2000.the 2000xl is cool..2000 lack some important features...Id steer away from the 1000 as well it lacks some feats as well

get both reason and mpc

if u get reason and an mpd 16 and hook them together u would have no problemos what so ever and on the beat makeing if u got u got it

Congrats on your purchase, I was in Guitar Center today also. I was peeping out the Trigger Finger and I was really close to buying it, but I decided to hold off and continue tapping my keys for a little while longer.

Next time I go to GC I'm looking at either monitors, mics, preamps, or rack gear.

When I get some more money I might look into the Akai MPD16 instead of the trigger finger. On the other hand I do need to buy some sounds for my new XBoard...I might check out the Mo Phatt kit or Street kit from emu.

That's kinda funny since I was just about to recommend that you do that. Remember to get Mo'Phatt and some other sound modules to go with it.
