Hi I wanted to buy my buddy's presonus firestudio from him but I have a Dell inspiron 1525 and it just stalls during recording after about 30 to 1:30 seconds in. Is there any way that can be fixed?? Also are there any other companies that make an affordable alternative to the firestudio, the 8 channels are key to why I want the firestudio so I'm looking for something with that.

thanks for any help!

Looks fine to me but I've never worked with a laptop.
There are several Firewire and USB interfaces on the market.
Just Google what you're looking for and read as many reviews as you can find.

when i installed my presonus firestudio project, I completely reinstalled my PC operating system. Some may think this drastic, but over time, windows becomes very sluggish and a reinstall puts my PC back to a pristine state.

I had great troubles getting my Firebox to work on a Dell Studio running Windows Vista. Installing XP got it to work.

My firebox runs flawlessly on a 1525 with Win7 installed.

One thing to check...when recording, try turning off the wireless networking switch. It really kills performance. Don't know if that's your problem, but if it's on, it certainly isn't helping you any.

Did you update firmware? is it sync blue light and also call Presonus they will try to help you

Known Incompatible Hardware
• ATI RADEON 9000/9001 IGP video chipset. Symptoms are consistent click and pops during audio
playback. This video chipset is only found in PC laptops and is entirely integrated as the computer’s
only video controller. PreSonus strongly recommends that users do not purchase a system with this
chipset as there is currently no workaround for this incompatibility.
• USB/FireWire and s400/s800 combo cards. Symptoms usually include no audio
recording/playback, even though the device will install and sync, and erratic audio performance.
Rarely, combo cards will prevent the device from installing or achieving a stable sync. We
recommend FireWire cards that have S400 FireWire connections only.
• FireWire cards with NEC chipsets. Symptoms include installation issues, erratic audio, and
extraneous static and noise.
• Motherboards with nForce4 chipsets. Symptoms include reduced to very poor performance,
especially if using the onboard FireWire connection. Installing a PCIe (not PCI) FW400-only card
with an approved chipset is a known workaround but might not allow full performance.
