Son of Yoda
Anyone out there have one of these?

I'm trying to record acoustic guitar with it (+NT5s/MXL603s) and I find that the total gain I get is really not that much, and that it clips very easily before I get to the orange/red LEDs.

Is there something I'm doing fundamentally wrong here? - I'm only using the individual gain knobs, nothing else, 2 mics in, 2 signals out, and it's only fingerstyle acoustic guitar.

Low gain / easily clipped.

Have much less drama with my Mindprint Envoice in both areas.

Any info is welcome - I'm a bit new to preamps generally!

Cheers

You might try engaging the -20 dB pads. You probably shouldn't have to do that unless you are miking a loud source, not like fingerstyle guitar  Give it a try.

I use the MLX603/MP20 for acoustic guitars. Great sound IMHO.

Thanks Wide Awake - I may give that a try, although you're right, I shouldn't have to for fingerstyle guitar - it is a particularly boomy guitar though - might be that swell of volume that's pushing it over the edge into clipping - I'll play around with mic placement a bit more, haven't quite figured how to mic this guitar - if you're using the same gear and getting good results then it's gotta be something I'm doing.

Cheers
