On the Presonus firestudio mobile, I looked over the manual and noticed something. If you have a piece of equipment with stereo +4db output and run it into the line inputs on the Presonus FM, there is no level/input/trim control. It states the output or volume control on your piece of equipment will set the level.....................Does this matter because whit if you want to run your equipment 2/3 or 3/4 all the way up to get a good signal and then tame it down with the interface trim control.........In this instance you would not be able to do that, but does this matter or an issue when running equipment into the LINE INPUT jacks?????

Line level is line level. You usually don't have an input gain or volume control.

Some devices may have line out volume control, but for example, the line outputs of a hifi or keyboard won't change if you turn the volume up or down.

That said, there are two common variants of line level. -10db and +4db.

If the interface expects +4 and you feed it -10, the signal will be low, and vice versa will be hot.

A lot of devices with a line output will have a selector to switch between -10 and +4.

So your DAW will provide attenuation? Is there such a thing as overloading a usb or firewire connection and causing distortion? Most modelers have a volume or output control that I could just turn down, but what if I need to run it up a little bit to have a good signal going in (In this case it would make sense to be talking +4db levels)? I won't be able to bring it down with the interface with a trim or gain reduction knob to prevent overloading the input will I? I am in territory I really don't get.

What? no, that's not what I'm saying.

There are two different common nominal levels for line level hardware.

One is designed to send/receive one level, the other is designed to send/receive the other.

If you mix and match, they won't match. :)

Broadly speaking, -10 is found in consumer goods like hifis and stuff, and +4 is found in professional equipment, so there's a good chance that the line outputs on the gear you have will match anyway.

You can't overload your firewire or usb connection in the way you describe, but you can overload analog to digital converters.

It's not gona happen on pro equipment as it operates at the higher nominal level, so you'll either be matching it, or lower than it if that makes sense.

IDK, I only really know the basics. Maybe someone can correct me, or back me up here?

Is this interface considered a decent little unit? Or is it a joke.

I have a question about this piece of gear....does this allow you to separate the headphone outputs for a cue out? I'm looking at a dj interface and the firebox has it but its discontinued...
