Well put. It is a short divide. The other illustrates a HUGE topic, which is the fact that the listener is who we are doing this for. Granted, some sectors of audio engineering demand absolute fidelic accurracy. But for the artist, playing the song well into a decent set of tools will show face enough. No need for a Crystal Palace recording studio. Listeners neither have the gear nor the mindset of disection for the most part.
Our projects should not be defined by absolute sonic character in fear all those engineers that are listening will hear "my crappy mix". Engineers are the tiniest squad in the listener army. And the listeners just want to hear something interesting, whatever it might be, and wherever it came from. Just make it clear and proud, but most importantly, honest from where it all starts....creativity.
