I've been mixing down from my 424mkII to tape for a long time now. It never sounds as I feel it should. What is the preferred medium to mix down to? Should I consider getting a mini-disc recorder? I already have a cd-burner.

DAT or CD-R are the best bets right now... some people use MiniDisk and it works but you have to realize it is a lossy storage medium, so sound quality is not the same calibre as DAT/CD-R. A budget mixdown alternative is VHS HiFi..........

Minidisks use a compressed format to store the music (think MP3). While not bad, you can not help but lose quality when you compress the file. There is a trade-off between quality and storage space.

Bruce is right, DAT or CD-R.
