I'm getting a Shure SM86 and awhile back I was suggested this preamp:

Looking at the back, I'm wondering how the heck it hooks up to the computer/soundcard? My soundcard as an optical, coax (which is in use) and the 5.1 mini rca plug line. I want to spend $100-150 for a preamp. The mic needs to be able to hook up to the preamp and the preamp needs to be able to hook up into the soundcard so I can use Adobe Audition to record.

It's a 24/96 soundcard.

EDIT: Oh, and I need a little stand to sit on the table infront of to hold the mic up.

You just need a cable with xlr female at one end from the pre and rca phono at the other end going into the soundcard.

You'll be going balanced to unbalanced but apart from a slight drop in signal (6db) this shouldn't be a problem.

I take it one of those doesn't come up with the amp?

What about a table stand?

Just get a regular boom mic stand. It will be far more useful than just a tabletop stand, IMO. Also, go ahead and get at least a decent mic stand, you'll thank yourself later.

:D

I have no where to put a ground stand, thats my problem.
